Walleye Fishing Tips and Tricks!

Walleye, Bass, and Perch

Fishing Tips and Tricks!

TIPS

When jigging for walleyes or perch use sensitive graphite rods with 4 to 6 pound test for best feel and sensitivity.

Never drop your rod when setting the hook. A fish can suck your FLIRTY GIRTY in and spit it out in the time it takes to pump your rod.

Always set the hook straight up or back without dropping the rod tip.

Use minnows or crawlers in the spring. Switch to leeches and plastics in the summer. In the fall, go back to larger minnows or leeches (when you can find them).

Avoid areas of heavy boat traffic. Walleyes hate boat traffic!

Fish early AM or late PM. Cloudy days with a light chop can be a great time!

Fish the windy side of the lake, baitfish and predators congregate there.

TRICKS

*Fishing can be hot... an hour before the full moon rises or just after it sets, especially if it coincides with an incoming front.

*On sunny days... fish the shady side of mid-lake bars.

*When summer temps reach 100 degrees... fish thick weeds with FLIRTY GIRTYS in water as shallow as 3 feet. This can be a trophy time for walleyes.

*When walleyes and perch are hitting hard... it probably means you're into a school of fish competing for food. If you're using minnows, hook them through the head first. It works just as well, and will help conserve bait.

Trying new techniques makes fishing more interesting and FUN!
